From Business News Americas:
VeriSign adds GSM to International Roaming Service.
May 2003 Business News Americas English
Digital security enabler VeriSign (Nasdaq: VRSN) and wireless enterprise services provider WorldCell have signed a strategic alliance to offer carriers the ability to extend their international roaming coverage to include GSM mobile networks, in addition to CDMA and TDMA networks, the companies said Monday in a statement.
VeriSign will leverage the global roaming agreements of WorldCell and participating affiliates, who operate under the WorldCell RSB brand, to let its wireless carrier customers support roaming across the three major mobile technologies worldwide. "VeriSign's alliance with WorldCell represents a powerful value to wireless operators in the ability to access different platform services, without having to build their own," stated Terry Kremian, the executive VP and general manager of VeriSign's telecommunication services division.
This week, VeriSign will introduce the interstandard roaming service to the members of its Pan-American Roaming Consortium (PARC) throughout Latin America. Carriers who sign on to the agreement will have immediate access to services for handling roaming agreements, roamer testing, data clearing and billing conversion, financial clearing and settlement, fraud management and customer care, and also, an option for handset fulfillment and provisioning.
VeriSign provides a comprehensive portfolio of wireless services to more than 229 carriers, ranging to OSS to billing and customer care, to security and network analysis. The company launched with messaging solutions provider MobileSpring in January an international SMS interconnection service, which at the time linked nine mobile operators in Latin America and the Caribbean.
WorldCell, Inc. provides global voice and data services for enterprises and mobile professionals.
