WorldCell To Sponsor “Team Give Life” in 2005 Race Across America
What does an international cellular carrier and an ultra-distance cycling team have in common? They both offer 24-hour reliability under the most remote and extreme conditions.
WorldCell, Inc. (www.worldcell.com) is pleased to announce its sponsorship of “Team Give Life,” a four-man, ultra-distance cycling team that will compete in the 2005 Race Across America – a grueling, non-stop, 3000 mile bike race from San Diego to Atlantic City – to raise awareness and funds for the cause of blood, organ, and tissue donation.
WorldCell’s monetary and in-kind sponsorship kicks-off Team Give Life’s goal of raising $100,000 for The Give Life Foundation, an organization established to increase the awareness of the chronic shortage of the U.S. blood supply and encourage the donation of blood, blood products, organs and tissues.
“By competing in the RAAM, we race against time for those who run a more profound race – the race to find a donor in time for a critical organ transplant or blood transfusion that will save their lives,” says Bruce Deming, Team Give Life’s Director.
“We at WorldCell are pleased and excited to play a role in this important campaign,” said S. Blake Swensrud, WorldCell’s Chairman and CEO. “We believe that greater public awareness of, and participation in blood and organ donor programs is essential to our world community, and WorldCell is delighted to play a role in support of these vital goals.”
“The unique thing about organ donation as a medical treatment is that the cure is already known, and the cure is awareness” says Deming. “The problem is essentially one of communication – it’s about raising national consciousness and registering more people for organ and blood donations. In that sense, WorldCell’s support of our team as a world class provider of communications services is a logical tie-in to our mission,” says Deming.
“This is an important mission, in an epic race, on a national stage, with a message we believe in”, said Swensrud, “and we encourage all of our friends and partners to participate in this campaign.” To pledge your support and otherwise learn more about Team Give Life, go to www.teamgivelife.org

The Race Across America is the most recognized and longest endurance annual cycling event in our world today. To be competitive, participants must travel close to 3,000 miles in 9 days by racing approximately 22 hours a day – from San Diego to Atlantic City. From start to finish, it is a single stage race, a battle against the vast environmental conditions encountered and the rider's own mental and physical capacities. www.raceacrossamerica.org
