WorldCell Launches BECoN Back-Up Emergency Communications Network

Recent events have forced organizations to focus efforts on improving security and emergency response preparedness. The key lesson learned is that traditional communications networks may be inadequate to handle emergency communications needs. At times, entire regions are not able to communicate because the communications infrastructure is either incapacitated or destroyed.

BECoN (Backup Emergency Communications Network) is a satellite-based communications package that can be permanently installed or rapidly deployed during a crisis. Designed as a complete backup solution, BECoN is ready at any time. BECoN utilizes the same satellite communications network, the Iridium Satellite system, that the Department of Defense relies on.

BECoN is a complete communications system that allows you to communicate with teams in the field using voice or data and to normal landline or cell phones outside the affected region.

The BECoN system consists of two components - the "Base Pack" and the "Field Pack". The four channel Base Pack can be installed in Emergency Command Centers, Dispatch Centers and Mobile Command Centers or used as part of a rapid field deployment kit. The Base Pack can be connected to existing PBX systems or used on a stand alone basis. The Field Pack components can be installed in emergency vehicles, given to key officials or stored in easily accessible areas for field emergency personnel to use. The number of Base and Field packs required is based on the intended use and the population served.
